Prevention of Terrorism Act: Myth and Reality
Synopsis
Terrorism has existed in one form or another in many societies for centuries. It is the methods, means and weapons that account for differentiation of various manifestations of terrorism. In spite of the threats of terrorism, the international community fails to define terrorism. The menace of international terrorism with its wide roots and numerous global connections has been recognized as a grave international concern by every major international gathering in recent years. Terrorism is a threat to international peace and security especially when terrorists organizations operating against a foreign state are given safe heavens within the borders of a state. During the last two decades and particularly after September 11, 2001, terrorism is a no longer regarded as an ordinary crime or as an occasional disruption of law and order. It is perceived as a grave threat to the domestic and international order. Terrorism is widely regarded as a means employed by some states to systematically and covertly attack or encourage others to attack other States, or as a methods aimed at the collapse of lawful civil authority in a State whereby violent groups undermine the most basic principles of democratic institutions- all in furtherance of a design to strike fear in order to achieve a desired objective. Terrorism is fundamentally an attack upon the prevalling legal order by violent means. The present book “prevention of Terrorism Act: Myth and Reality†will benefit not only the students, the teachers of social studies and legal field and policymakers but also will be immense use for any body who is interested in the grave phenomenon of terrorism that has become central to social discourse and our existence today.
