This book is devised in such a manner that bio-energy development through energy plantation and the routes of biomass conversion such as solid, liquid and gaseous bio-fuels like briquetting, ethanel production, bio-gas, producer gas, etc. has been covered in general with special emphasis on its utilization for thermal application as well as power generation. Recent practices of biomass production for energy generation and advances on biomass collection, transportation and conversion machinery has been covered. This book provides relevant information in the field of biomass and its utilization for energy development which would be useful to the scientists, student, extension personnel, development agencies in understanding the potential of bio-energy and adoption of efficient energy conversion technologies.

With a view to update the knowledge of junior scientists and concerned teachers about the latest advancements in the area of biomass conservation and utilisation for sustainable energy development, a Winter School was organised at Dr. P.D.Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola, India. Senior scientists and experts from all over the country delivered invited lectures on various aspects of the subject, including the Indian experiences and R&D work.
