Synopsis
The present volume of KALA comprises 34 articles and three reviews. The articles pertain to the unpublished materials and also to fresh interpretations and analyses of different aspects of Indian art. The articles cover almost all the important regions and areas encompassing a vast period spanning from the earliest times to the 20th century. However, one article on 'Raden Hardjuna and Panakawans of Wayang Purwa' deals with a living art form of Indonesia having nexus with India. The volume includes papers concerning architecture, sculpture, iconography, painting, terracotta and tribal and folk art. The articles particularly dealing with the art on coins and seals open new prospects for futuristic studies. The articles on symbolism of temple with reference to Khajuraho temples, association of horse with the Vedas, illustrated manuscript of Sura Dasa's Padas and Ancient Indian Concept of City Architecture touch new areas with fresh observations and interpretations.
