Synopsis Tamil Nadu's recently achieved rapid and distinct pattern of "Welfare Model of Demographic Transition" adds a new dimension to this global theory. In fact the predominant welfare model of development followed in this state itself is a deviation from the fiercely competitive struggle found in several countries for rapid industralisation as a means for development, almost totally disregarding the welfare of the poor millions and the quality of their life.
