Handicapped: Their Psychology and Rehabilitation
Synopsis
The book is an outcome of several years of painstaking research work done by the author on orthopaedically handicapped population. Every physical disability is gripped with some sort of psychological disturbances. These psychological disturbances may cause personality deviations. In spite of the fact that persons with disability possess more or less similar abilities as the able bodied, they are faced with a number of psychological problems in real life situations. A handicap – severe or mild – is likely to affect normal development. This study is a modest effort which deals with the clinical aspects of personality dimensions of the handicapped, viz., Neuroticism and Psychoticism. Neuroticism & Psychoticism are taken as major dependent variables while type of physical disability, degree or severity of physical disability, sex or gender, age and income are taken as independent variables. Effect of independent variables on dependent variables have been discussed at length. Dindings of this research are helpful in planning and implementation of Rehabilitation strategies for physically handicapped people. Act regarding “People with Disability; 1995†is also included in this book which may be regarded as the basis to have an access to the Government policies for the people having disability. The book may be useful for scholars from various disciplines like Guidance & Counseling, Medical Social Work, Rehabilitation, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Para-Medical fields, Education and Researches. It is hoped that the book would invite attention of general readers and those who seek career in Psychology.
