My Kashmir in Peace and Turbulence: Story of a Native in Exile

B.L. Kaul (Author)
Synopsis

The book is in the form of memoirs by the author who is a native of Kashmir but had to leave his home in 1990, due to dangerous conditions prevailing there, perpetrated by terrorists and fundamentalists, aided by Pakistan. It is a first-hand account of the state of affairs in Jammu and Kashmir after India's partition in 1947. Since the author has been an eye-witness to the periods of peace and turmoil in Kashmir, his narration makes a compelling reading. He underscores the importance of building peaceful relations between India and Pakistan so that peace and progress return to the valley.

The book is structured in 18 chapters, each taking up an important event or period from Kashmir's recent socio-political history. Certain recent developments, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to develop peaceful relations with Pakistan by meeting Nawaz Sharif in Russia during SCO Summit in July 2015, visiting Lahore to wish Nawaz Sharif in December 2015 on his birthday and take part in the marriage ceremony of Sharif's granddaughter, and then the deterioration of relations between the two countries due to terrorist attacks on Indian army men, have been given in the Epilogue. Some incidents have been authenticated by quotes from books and papers (duly acknowledged)

The book will find favour with all those interested in knowing about the events that took place in Kashmir after India's independence.
