Keshav Malik (05 November 1924 - 11 June 2014) worked as the Literary Editor of Thought and later as the Editor of Indian Literature, a bi-monthly published by the Sahitya Akademi (the National Academy of Letters).
He published twenty volumes of his verse besides a book of short stories and edited several anthologies of poetry. His verse has been translated into several Indian and foreign languages. He was the first President of The Poetry Society (India) as also of The Poetry Club (India).
He was a prolific writer on contemporary art and was the art critic for The Times of India and The Hindustan Times for several years. He curated art exhibitions, and was an invited member of the jury for several national awards. Recipient of several awards, he received the Padma Shri for Literature in 1991, an award instituted by the Government of India and was elected Fellow of the Lalit Kola Akademi, the National Academy for Art in 2004.
Asked what poetry means to him, he once said, ‘For me, and I have learnt this from my peers, poetry is the foremost sense-maker of experience.
