Cementum and Periodontal Regeneration
Periodontal regeneration involves cementogenesis, osteogenesis and formation of the periodontal ligament fibres and apart from residual cementum, the surface characteristics of the planed root surface have also implications upon the regeneration process. The amounts of remaining calculus, loss of tooth substance and roughness resulting from, the use of hand instruments has a bearing on the attachment of fibroblasts and ultimately the type of attachment to the root surface. This has been beautifully illustrated and explained with the medium of landmark studies and recent literature related to the topic, pictorial representation, tabular forms, graphs to provide a clear comprehensive view about the regulatory role of cementum in periodontal regeneration.
