Agroforestry Strategies for Climate Change: Mitigation and Adaptation
Agroforestry Strategies for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation” has been designed by incorporating four themes viz., 1) Climate Change - Issues and Concerns 2) Carbon Sequestration 3) Agroforestry Options and Strategies 4) Carbon Finance and Carbon Offset. The first theme includes six chapters which discuss the causes and effects of climate change at length which will find utility by Scientists and other stakeholders in their research and academic activities. The second theme has six chapters which dwelve upon the methodologies and approaches in carbon sequestration potential of both above and below ground biomass. Scientists, Environmentalists and policy makers looking for specific methodology will find the chapters in this theme to be very useful and practically applicable under field conditions. The third theme on Agroforestry Options and Strategies has twelve chapters wherein all possible agroforestry options have been explored and furnished. Trees Outside Forests, silviagriculture, silvipasture, silvihorticulture, IFS, wind breaks and shelterbelt based agroforestry models and their mitigation and adaptation potential are discussed in detail which will provide the much needed information for researchers, professional foresters, agroforestry promoters and financial institutions involved in funding agroforestry projects. The last theme on carbon finance and carbon offset has seven chapters wherein India’s perspective and initiatives by NABARD is described in detail. Information in this theme will augur well for the proposed programmes by state departments of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, fisheries, rural development etc. in order to use them for getting financial assistance through Green Climate Fund. Similarly, the valuation mechanism of environmental services, role of TOF in carbon offset, watershed project etc. will be of more useful to tree growers, environmentalists, NGOs and industries involved in promotion of agroforestry.
