Tribal Livelihood
The issue of livelihood is prominently addressed in both academic and pragmatic activities relating to tribes of all economic or occupational categories irrespective of their place of residence. There is a strong view point that from livelihood perspective majority of tribes are heading towards insecurity. Scholars have underlined number of historical and contemporary reasons responsible for this state of affair. Also, consequences of livelihood insecurity has drawn attention of various scholars and activists. Articles included in the present volume which is based on both 'Book View' and 'Field View' deals with reasons, process and consequences of erosion of traditional tribal livelihood. It also covers interface between tribes and so called modern livelihood chances and opportunities. Scholars have suggested various cultural capsules to address the problem of livelihood insecurity. Suggestions have also been made to improve status of livelihood in tribal areas of the country. The book is very useful for planners, change agents and researchers who are dealing with the issue of tribes in general and the question of tribal livelihood in particular.
