Education and Development
The theme of the book—education and development, is central to the current contemporary discourses on development. The nexus between education and development is strong and deep-rooted. Education contri-butes to several dimensions of development—economic growth, poverty, inequality and social development. But education is affected by structural adjustment and globalisation policies and the accompanying policies on financing, and private education. With respect to all these, many countries have valuable experiences and hence can learn from each other. The book that includes one dozen articles prepared by the author over the last 2-3 decades provides a critical discussion on these and other related themes. The purpose of the book is to stimulate sound and informed thinking about some of the critical issues in education and development.
