The European Union, which came into existence on I January 1993, is a major event in international political and economic relations and has caught the attention of the world. The collapse of the Soviet Union and the dramatic turn of events in Eastern Europe have significant bearings on North-South Relations as the countries of South undergo fundamental changes.
