The introductory chapter is meant to give the beginner a thorough grounding into the subject of histology. Chapter 2 on methods would be helpful in producing good quality slides of the normal as well as diseased fish. Chapters 3 to 12 comprehensively describe the normal structure of the different organ systems of the three Indian major carps – catla, rohu and mrigal – the most widely cultivated fishes in India. 243 labelled photomicrographs of all the tissues and organs provide pictorial resource for interpreting histologic preparations.
