American literature is being prescribed as a special paper in so many Indian and foreign universities. The book includes early history of American Literature along with Emily Dickinson’s Literary position and her literary inheritance. Her themes of poetry have been discussed exhaustively and ample number of her poems have been analysed socio-linguistically to increase textual communicatively so that she is no more called as a difficult poet or obscure poet or a private poet. The book explains textual features like cohesion, coherence, foregrounding, parallelism, various deviation rules which are generally not cared by the readers while making out meaning of the poem and such an attitude creates false understanding of the poem or creates disinterest in the readers of poetry but study of this book will enable the readers of poetry to do justice with the reading and understanding to their poetry since text linguistic parameters such as cataphore, anaphora, communicativity etc, have been explained exhaustively and ample number of poems have been focused in the light of these parameters to exhibit the readers how such an approach helps to increase poetic comprehensibility. It is hoped that the book will be immensely useful for the college and university students.
