This book titled ‘Earth Sheltered Structure’ authored by Noopur Baghel is an initiative towards developing a sensitivity towards sustainable housing beneath the earth for the future generations. Earth sheltering is an age long traditional practice. With the potential thermal conservation qualities and physical characteristics of earth as a building mass, earth shelters can now be defined as structures built with the use of earth mass against building walls as external thermal mass, which reduces heat loss and maintains a steady indoor air temperature throughout the seasons. In the view of some researchers on earth supported housing, building underground provides energy savings by reducing the yearly heating and cooling loads in comparison with known Conventional structures. This book will be of great use for strengthening the cause of green buildings movement.
