Tecomella undulata (Marwar Teak) is a valuable timber species of the hot arid regions of Asia and is one of the 18 monotype genera facing threats globally. It is one of the socially accepted species of farmlands in north-western India. In addition to environmental value in conserving soil and water, provide shelter to domestic and wild life and supporting livelihoods, T. undulata has invaluable place in ethnobotany because of the biochemical’s present in it, which has medicinal uses in treatments of varying ailments. This book focuses on all aspects of T. undulata covering adaptability to production and conservation. There are 8 chapters in the book. The first 3 chapters describes its geographical distribution, adaptability to the regional climate, historical evolution, taxonomical description and ecology and biology of this species including association. The next 2 chapters deals with quality timber production and bio-chemical constituents and their therapeutic and traditional uses; and utilization of this species in farm land including impacts on farm production, nutrient cycling and carbon dynamics and sequestration. Fifth chapter describes its improvement and production of quality seedlings adopting tree selection and macro-and micro-propagation. The last two chapters deals with silvicultural aspects of this species including seed quality, raising seedlings in nursery, plantation establishment and their management and post planting care, which involves abiotic and biotic stresses and their control measures. The objectives of this book is to provide the readers a wide ranging knowledge about T. undulata and to promote this species under afforestation programmes for its conservation and enhancing its productivity in favour of local population and to improve the environmental conditions degrading conditions of drylands as well. The book would be useful to the researchers, academician, policy makers, forest managers, NGOs and environmentalists and conservationist equally and would help in effective planning for conservation of such species facing threats of extinction due to both anthropogenic and climatic adversities.
