Only A Comma
At first sight, Only a Comma might seem like an autobiography but, in reality, it is much more. It is an account of the social, political and economic history of India from 1924 to 2014. During these ninety years, a lot has happened in India and to Indians – British rule, the Second World War, Partition, Independence, the Emergency, unstable political scenarios, spectacular achievements, great blunders and more. Across the years, the author, Santosh Narain Nautial, has met people of all statures, shapes, temperaments and nationalities – from paupers to policymakers – who have inspired him, influenced him or spurred him to action. Mr Nautial's life story is a saga of struggles, successes and resourcefulness. A story of how, when he was a boy of six studying in school, a couple of whacks with a cane were considered the best aid to learning. Of facing the prospect of no further education beyond what a small city could offer. Of nevertheless acquiring –with the help of many a well-wisher and a part-time job - higher education and a respected government job. Of travelling the world. Of pursuing his passion for writing and stage acting.
