Navigation: Part 1: A Workbook On Terrestrial Navigation
This volume is intended as a work book with an objective to enhance the problem solving skills of students at the graduate, undergraduate & diploma level courses. The compilation of theory adequately supported by well illustrated ample diagrams, is restricted to comprehension only, for better understanding of the basic concepts. A separate chapter Problems of Higher Order Thinking Skills useful for candidates preparing for Second and Chief Mate’s courses is included in the book. A few MMD questions of previous years have also been incorporated. Scientific calculator is handy and comfortable tool for students these days because of which use of Norie’s Nautical Tables has been limited to familiarisation and also in solving problems on Mercator sailing, Traverse sailing and Day’s Work. Haversine formula method of solving problems have not been included because of ease of using scientific calculator for Cosine and Sine Formulae. Similarly, ABC Tables have been provided for finding initial & final great circle.
