What Ails ibrary websites of research and technical institutions of India
The book is focused on understanding the currently functional status of library websites of Research and Technical Institutions of India. Webometric tools and techniques were deployed during the course of the investigation. These included Web Indicators, Sitebeam Web Analyzer Test Scores and Web Impact Factors. The list of 105 Library Web Indicators has been divided into 5 different blocks. These five blocks are Resource, Service, Links, Information and Design as well as Graphics. Web Analyzers are another source used for evaluating the websites. They evaluate indicators that cannot be evaluated by human eyes. They also investigate back links, broken links, external and internal links, page speed, load time, mobile compatibility, domain age, keyword consistency, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tools, hit counts, etc. A maximum of 100 web pages of a library website were tested by Sitebeam Web Analyzer. Each library website was tested on 26 individual test scores ranging from 0 to 10. Web Impact Factors also provided detailed insights into the content, structure and design of the library websites. The feasibility and reliability of calculating the impact factors for the website are called Web Impact Factor (WIF). It contains quantitative indicators developed by Ingwersen (1998). According to him, WIF is calculable and reliable if processed by means of a series of inverted but identical Boolean Operations with caution in order to isolate and estimate the number of web pages pointing to the pages at a given site. The book is a milestone in this field giving explicit directions for standardization of institutional library websites and bringing them upto international levels of function and operation.
