Synopsis The work embodied in the present book is comprised of eight chapters dealing with important branch of Indian National Movement. The first two chapters cover the national movement before the advent of Mahatma Gandhi and his constructive programme. The third chapter deals with the mass awakening and people's response to Gandhiji's programme for the eradication of social evils. The fourth chapter marks entirely with Khadi-movement as it was an unique feature of Gandhian ideology. The fifth chapter rightly highlights the extent to which his programme was implemented by the Congress Government in U.P. The sixth chapter forms the hardcore of this work and throws light on the Gandhiji's complete programme of rural reconstruction. Chapter seventh coversup Gandhiji's precept and concept of basic education. Chapter eight obviously provides conclusion with an original contribution to historical research in Modern Indian History. This would be proved as a reference work for those who are working on the economic and social history of Uttar Pradesh.
