Synopsis
This volume contains eight articles on health, forest development and environment in three sections. The first article in Section 1 covers socio-cultural dimensions of health, relation between environment and health, interaction of traditional and modern health care systems and tribal medicine. The second article emphasizes the need to develop traditional knowledge and wisdom instead of replacing it. The third article examines development of medical anthropology in India. In Section II, the first article examines colonial and post colonial forest policy, importance of forest in tribal economy, social forestry programmes and promotion of commercial interest at the cost of tribals in the new afforestation policy.
