Vedic Studies - Journal of the School of Vedic Studies (Volume 7)

Bhaskarnath Bhattacharyya (Author)
Synopsis

In Indian Sanskrit Literature there is a brilliant axiom sreyamsi bahuvighnani - which befits me at this moment of writing the preface of this journal. Still it gives me satisfaction that after a long tug of war between the printing press and the school our journal Vedic Studies - Vol. VII is now going to see the light of the day. I believe that it is better to have only a cake in time than to have a basket of fruits belatedly, but I also suppose to consider that it is better to be a head of a dog than to be a tail of lion. So I do regret the delay in publishing this volume because of some unwilling inescapable circumstances, but still enjoy some pleasure of arrangement. Well, in this present volume we have seven contributors with their nine contributions of whom Prof. Nicholas Kazanas has five compositions in which In the Beginning - 1,2,3 is a slab-wise continuous expression on the theory of creation. Of his other two compositions one is on the Sankhya system of Indian epistemology and the other is on Homer, Hesiod and the Mahabharata. Dr. Shashi Tiwari wrote on the National security : A Goal of Shri Rama’s Exile in Valmiki Ramayana . Prof. Ratna Basu expressed her thought on ancient Indian concept of the technique of speech, pronunciation and articulation. Prof. Nabanarayan Bandyopadhyay presented himself on the position of Gangadhara Pathaka among Commentators of the Sulbasutras. Prof. Soma Basu summed up her view on the concept of marriage and its forms from ancient Indian perspective. At the last part of the journal there are two book reviews by Prof. Samiran Chandra Chakrabarti of which one is Maharastri : Grammatischer Abriss und Worterbuch by Klaus Mylius and the other is 4 Collection from Sankara Commentaries on the Prasthana-traya by Swami Kritarthananda. I am very much appreciative to the contributors of this volume. I thankfully admit the valuable assistance rendered by Prof. Soma Basu and the existing research assistants Smt. Ranu Ghosh and Smt. Ishita Chakrabarti of the School as well. I am extremely grateful to Prof. Samiran Chandra Chakrabarti for his kind guidance in matters relating to editorial works. Thanks are also due to the authority of the University for administrative and financial approval. I crave indulgence for the printing mistakes that may still remain.
