Redevelopment of Community Centre Precincts New Delhi
Delhi is slated to be one of the largest urban agglomerations in the world in the near future. Due to the peculiar geographic location of the Union Territory of Delhi, there is limited land availability for urban development. As a consequence one of the strategies proposed in the Master Plan for Delhi 2021 is redevelopment and redensification of low-density areas by enhancing existing FAR by 50%.
The book examines the development possibilities and proposes innovative design solutions for three community center precincts in the city of Delhi namely New Friends Colony, Janakpuri and Vikas Puri. The projects published are amongst the best works of the students of the final year Bachelor's degree program in Architecture, School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, India. Situated in the heart of the city, drawing its faculty from the cream of practice and academia the School has leveraged its position to treat Delhi as a laboratory for its design studio endeavor.
Concurrently, the book throws light on structuring and methodologies adopted in the conduct of the Architectural Design studio wherein over 100 students working in groups of four demonstrated what city precincts or neighbourhoods of Delhi could actually become in the real world. This book would be useful to students, academics and professionals who are endeavoring to restructure the city precincts of today towards creating sustainable cities of the future.
