The book entitled, “Freshwater Cat and Snakehead fishes of India” perhaps one of the recent topics related to food security of the developing countries where most of the peoples remained below poverty level, suffering from protein deficiencies, but by far able to manage balanced nutrition from these catfish and snakeheads with considerable economic stimulus.
The underutilized aquatic resources may well be taken under culture activities to boost up various types of SIFS (Small Indigenous fishes) of nutritional interests wherein a little care is needed. The identification of various types of cat and snakehead fishes is of utmost importance so far the region, climate and habitats are concerned, since India is considered as the mega biodiversity hotspot in the world and occupies the ninth position in terms of freshwater icthyo-diversified country. The book is divided into two basic parts, the Part-I deals with the various freshwater Catfishes available in Indian subcontinent. The types, categories systematic positions growing possibilities if any, have been dealt with immense care in the book. In the second (Part-II) part Freshwater Snakeheads have been dealt with. Besides the systematic positions of the various snakeheads, food & feeding habits and reproductive potentials, larval grow-out technologies have been dealt with various supportive research works and published outcome as references.
