This pictorial book is an attempt to explore and document the existing Buddhist monumental heritages of sTod Valley in Lahul which have been preserved by the inhabitants of the area for centuries. The historical as well as socio-economic and religious life of this region has elaborately been discussed in this book. Emphasis have been given to the main Brug-pa Monastery of Gemur and its subsidiary shrines and other religious structures of sTod region of the valley. About the author

Tobdan

Tobdan (b. 1944) is a self-taught historian and linguist. His particular area of study is Lahul and Spiti and the areas surrounding it.  He did LL.B from the University of Delhi and has recently retired as ACM from NABARD.  Tobdan has to his credit number of research papers and scholarly articles and books including History and Religiono f Lahul (1984), Bhoti Parichaya: Vyakaran and Anuvad (1990), The Peopleo f Upper Valley: The Todpas of Lahul in the Himalayas (1993), Kulu: A Study in History (2000) and Bashahar-Kinnaur: Cultural History of Western Trans-Himalaya (in press) and jointly with C.Dorje-Historical Documents from Western Trans-Himalayas (1996).
