Fractured Identity: The Indian Diaspora in Canada
Synopsis
With increased transnationalism and globalisation, diaspora studies has emerged as a vibrant area of research in humanities and social sciences. Bringing together some key essays in the field, this collection offers a comprehensive overview of Indian Diaspora in Canada. The papers mainly hinge on the issue of the politics of identity. The assertion of identity, and the context of that assertion, is something that is apparently of concern to social scientists. The book also includes some papers that highlight areas which are still not part of most mainstream disciplines, as, for example, studies related to elderly, and to ethnohistory. The genesis of this book lies in a two-day workshop held at the University of Pune on the "Indian Diaspora in Canada". It is of a multidisciplinary nature, and would interest geographers, sociologists, political scientists and historians.
