An Advanced Geography of India
This book is the outcome of our long teaching, research, and mapping experiences in the National Atlas & Thematic Mapping Organisation (NATMO), Survey of India, Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Viswa Bharati, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith and other universities. Over the years, different aspects of the Geography of India were dealt in a variety of ways and for different purposes. We have been benefitted by our involvement in bringing out the 2nd edition of the National Atlas of India and other publications of NATMO. Of course, the contributions of Professor S.P. Chatterjee were the guiding force for us. We have published other books on India as well. However, there has been a requirement to make a fresh attempt on the subject as the Indian scenario is changing very fast. This book on An Advanced Geography of India is likely to fill up this gap. Here an attempt has been made to cover the syllabus of under-graduate and post-graduate courses of most of the Indian universities. Latest data and information were collected for this purpose. The language has been kept as simple as possible considering the requirements of the Indian students. Further, persons who are preparing for different central and state government services may find the book useful. This book covers the physical, human, economic and environment related issues. There are 27 chapters covering different features of the Indian Geography. Further, there are chapters covering emerging issues such as regionalization, environment, disasters, Indian Ocean, borders, and emerging economic interests. Nevertheless, the historical, cultural, and population-related aspects have been given due consideration. The writeup is supported by tables, maps, and diagrams. Furthermore, this book may indicate the possibilities for exploring advanced research on different facets of the Geography of India as well.
