Buddhica Tibetica
After Ethnologia Tibetica, the second volume of Andrea Loseries's OMNIBUS Buddhica Tibetica presents writings and contributions in various journals and publications since 2008. One major article has so far been only accessible to German speakers. It is the first complete translation into English of a detailed cultural historical overview of Tibetan Buddhism. The following chapters reflect the author’s special interests in Vajrayana, i.e. Tantric Buddhism with the prerequisite of oral authorization, empowerment and personal instructions from her spiritual lineage masters. Starting with the an exploration of the fundamental Mahayana philosophy on the ‘Perfection of Wisdom’ prajnaparamita in the context of Tantric Buddhism, Mandalas of Buddha Vairocana are decoded and at the example of Cakrasamvara and a translated Mahamudra Song in the genre of Doha saiva traces in the Buddhas Tantras investigated. The rich illustrations in this volume mostly reflect the research and field studies carried out by the author in Tibet between 1987 and 1999.
