This book discusses the policy instruments of the Government for the development of traditional tribal weaving in the State of Tripura, India. The traditional handloom industry is one of the most important developmental sectors in Tripura. Traditional tribal weaving is an integral part of the rural livelihood of different tribal communities in Tripura. It plays a crucial role in employment generation, cultural sustainability, market integration and regional trade. By examining case studies of various tribal communities and different handloom clusters of Tripura this book highlights the production procedures, product scales, cultural preferences as well as colour combination, motifs coined from nature the economic and social conditions of traditional tribal weavers. It relates the interactions between the culture and economy of the local tribes.
