Scarab Beetles (Coleoptera : Scarabaeidae) of North-East India
The fauna of the Scarab Beetles of the North-East Biogeographic Zone has been comprehensively reviewed based on published literature and materials studies form 6 states, I.e. Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. A total of 587 species belonging to 121 genera under six subfamilies have been documented in this document. Melolonthinae is the dominant subfamily (180 species), followed by Scarabaeinae (172 species), Rutelinae (128 species), Cetoniinae (75 species), Dynastinae (20 species) and Aphodiinae (12 species). The distribution of the scarab beetles in states has been provided, with Meghalaya representing the maximum number of 372 species, followed by Assam (253), Manipur (99), Nagaland (68), Tripura (53) and Mizoram (43). Regarding the distribution in biotic provinces, 457 species are reported from North-East Hills and 251 from Brahmaputra Valley. The photographs of the habitus and external male genitalia of the studies 135 species are also provided with diagnostic characters and distribution of species. Twenty-seven species are reported as new records in the North-east Zone to report the extension of known geographic ranges. The illustrations of the external male genitalia of 29 species and habitus of 31 species are provided for the first time. The book aims to propagate knowledge to promote future research activities in scarab beetle taxonomy and its conservation. Contents: Preface. 1.
