The National Archives of Nepal is the official custodian of the archival documents in the country. In its possession, it has a large number if manuscripts written in several languages and scripts and covering a wide range of subject matters dating from the 5th century to the 20th century. The manuscript collection contains most of the oldest documents in existence, meticulously preserved in the time. It houses a vast and varied collection for more than 20,000 rare Tibetan manuscripts and block-print titles in 1259 bundles dating from the 11th century of Christian era to the 20th century. The Tibetan scripts and language are still in practice in the Northern regions of Nepal. These manuscripts stand as a symbol of glory of the Tibetan culture and civilization and has been in use for the religious, cultural and educational purposes since ancient times. These manuscripts related to Buddhism are also important for the authentic knowledge of our culture and religious diversity.
