The present title, published in 1882, by the Asiatic Society of Bengal, duly edited and analyzed by Dr. Rajendralala Mitra, is being issued as the new edition by the Asiatic Society, Kolkata with an introduction by Pallab Sengupta. The source materials were collected by Brian Houghton Hodgson from Nepal, where his stint continued for about 21 years in various phases and in various official capacities in British India between 1820 and 1843 when he retired as a Resident at Kathmandu. He collected nearly four hundred bundles of Buddhist Sanskrit manuscripts and other documents (Karunesh Shukla, History of Buddhist Sanskrit Literature, two volumes, Readworthy, New Delhi, 2021).
