Synopsis
Social Watch India 2003 is the first Citizens Report on Governance and Development. The report critically examines the performance of key institutions of governance in relation to social development. It focuses on the Parliament, the national policy domain, the Supreme Court and the institutions of local self-governance. The report is broadly divided into four parts, examining the institutions of governance in the year 2002. The first examines the working of the Parliament and the quality of business transacted. The second looks at three important policy arenas: health, education and poverty alleviation. The third part looks at the Supreme Court and its functioning. The last part analyses the functioning of the Panchayati Raj Institutions. The annexures provide the latest information on governance and development.
