A Monograph on Ramgarh Meteorite Impact Crater
“Ramgarh Impact Crater Geoheritage Site is a neglected site in Baran district of Rajasthan. The 3.5 km diameter creater is an eye pleasing geomorphic feature, which also has biotic, spiritual and archaeological heritage attributes. Located in a tropical area it has a forest that is protected by the environmental laws of the land and the commandments of spiritual faith of a Dev-Vanee (sacred grove).”
Concerted efforts by INTACH, since 2016, have resulted in the site gaining attention of the public and the administration. Through this monograph, the Natural Heritage Division of INTACH has brought out out a distillate of the rich geosciences literature on impact craters. The recommendations have caught the eye of the State Govt. and will be implemented soon. It is hoped to bring the crater on to the list of UN Geoparks.
