Lakshadweep archipelago consists of 36 atolls and coral reefs located on off the cost of Kerala covering a geographical area of 30 sq. km with land use area of 28.5 sq. km. ZSI has been successful in providing the faunal diversity of this mystic union territory with an exciting 4386 species of fauna including 58 faunal groups from Protozoa to Mammalia from deep sea to the terrestrial forms. The significance include: 389 species have been recorded for the very first from Lakshadweep with 10 new country records and two new species to science. The book will be of utmost benefit to the administrators, researchers, policymakers and the general public in an effort to protect our biodiversity.
