Synopsis The present work is a comprehensive study of marital discord in Indian writings in English. A book which includes both old and new, male and female novelists exhibiting various kinds of discords followed by an analysis of Indian scenario. Prof. Khurana examines the basic causes responsible for marital discord. His approach is both sociological and psychological dealing with the temperamental incompatibility and sexual maladjustment of the spouses. Cross cultural racial conflicts and tensions emanating gout of cultural value system and philosophical differences affect as much as the clash of expectations, desires and ambitions of life. Last but not the least domestic turmoil and dissatisfaction affect the domestic harmony of the familial life. Narayan, Raja Rao, Nayantara Sahgal and Khushwant Singh etc. The book concludes with an exhaustive but selective bibliography. While combining scholarship with the literary analyses, the book is interesting for the general reader and research scholars alike.
