Pakistan's Insurgency Vs India's Security: Tackling Militancy in Kashmir
Synopsis
Pakistan aided and inspired militancy had reached full-blown proportions in the valley in the beginning of 1990. Serious efforts were being made by Pakistan to enlarge the area of disturbances and the arc of militancy, into the border areas. The Government posted a Special Commissioner and Special DIG of Police for Rajouri and Poonch of Jammu & Kashmir in March 1990 with the assignment of stemming the rising tide of militancy and keeping the area free from trouble. In two years the task was successfully completed, peace and normalcy restored. The book chronicles how this difficult objective was achieved. With over 200 kms. long Line of Control (LC), the area represents an important flank in our defence. The book is about successful tackling of militancy, restoring peace, winning the confidence of the local population and establishing efficacy of the civil administration. The book also focuses on the work done by the civil administration in co-ordination with the security forces, with the people's involvement despite the strenuous efforts of Pakistan's ISI and its agents to create disturbances. This book is also a tribute to the people of Rajouri-Poonch, a predominently Muslim majority area, who refused to be swayed by the propaganda of the enemy and stood solidly behind the administration and security forces.
