Synopsis
This book on Health Care Policies and Programmes reflects upon health education and environmental sanitation, essential pillars of health development leading to socio-economic development in Chapters 1 and 2. Chapter 3 and 4 examine the status, issues, modifications and future strategy of National Health Programmes both in the areas of communicable and non-communications diseases. Chapters 5, 6 and 7 cover an important area of Family Planning Programme including information, education and communication as well as recently introduced reproductive and child health services based on population conference at Cairo in 1993. It has been stressed here that quality of maternal and child health services can accelerate the tempo of family planning programme to move towards population stabilization. (An analysis of New Population Policy has also been incorporated to assess it positive and negative aspects). Chapters 8, 9, 10 examine the health programmes critically aimed at women’s health, children’s health, health of the elderly and youth. All these programmes have been examined within the integrated framework of health and family planning welfare. The thrust in all the chapters has been to inject new tools and techniques to provide decent health care and make the life of the people healthier and worthwhile and not merely prolongation of life. This book also examines the problems encountered in the implementation of health policy and come out with the suggestion to face health problems in the 21st century intelligently, imaginatively, with clear perspectives and determination.
