Green Consciousness Rising: The Coming Wars of Energy and Ecology
Synopsis
Our industrial civilisation is based upon fossil fuels. Nature took billions of years to fix the carbon to the earth's surface and sub surface. Mankind will burn it all back into the atmosphere, well before the end of this century. This will entrain the greenhouse effect of global warming. A rise in terrestrial temperatures of over 5 degrees centigrade could breed climatological collapse on a horrific scale. The era of Energy Wars, initiated with Gulf War I in 1991 is now a full-fledged reality with Gulf War II. As the world's oil drains out, the competition for its control and end use could intensify and lead to major energy wars. These wars would be fought to control the earth's energy surplus zones and have already started in the Middle East and in the Central Asian periphery of Afghanistan and Chechnya. In an era of Ecological Wars, mankind would be faced with two grand strategic choices, should it seek extensions of the hydrocarbon era by seeking new sources, or seek a radical alternative in green and renewable sources of energy like solar power and hydrogen fuel cells? The author envisions an era of ecology wars, which could well commence from 2030 as a clash of rival ideologies-the one premised on economics, the other on ecology and survival. Book one examines this paradigm of conflict. Book two examines the new paradigm of a global green consciousness and the onset of a solar civilisation.
