Synopsis
The impact of information technology, globalization and liberalization have ushered in new thought processes and effective intervention of technology. This resulted in schools no more remaining as places of oneway traffic in learning, but have now taken on the role of nerve-centres. The change in role has a direct impact on the role of teachers. No longer are they mere facilitators, but are also co-learners. This calls for structural changes in the approach to education. The issues which G. Balasubramanian has raised are pertinent to these changing times and we may be already facing them at some level, or will eventually in the near future. Are we ready to accept and cope with these changes' is the question on which the author wants the reader to introspect. What is needed is a paradigm shift in our mindset and attitude so as to usher in the emerging system of education, if we are to meet the challenges of the 21 century.
