Socio-Linguistic Constraints in Teaching English
Synopsis
This book addresses the ways in which second language learning is related to the pedagogical and non-pedagogical issues in acquiring the ability to communicate across national/international frontiers. It argues that language teachers need to develop sensitivity not only to the educational and non-educational issues of teaching/learning process but also to the cultural differences. Socio-cultural issues are invisible factors, lying beneath the surface but it influences the acquisition of second language negatively. It studies English language teaching in Maithili speech community (a part of North Bihar). It provides a reality based approach to English language teaching in Indian context. It will be of great help to the students and trainee teachers in particular and language planners and educators in general.
