Administrations and Industrial Development
Synopsis
The cornerstone and basic theoretical assumption of “Administrations and Industrial Development†is that the success and the effectiveness of industrial development in LDC’s largely depends on the performance and structure of its corresponding administrations responsible for these tasks. On the other hand, this very performance depends on “environmental factors†these agencies are facing. Departing from a policy perspective, the book – which is based on the contributions for an international symposium organized by the Faculty of Administrative Sciences/University of Konstanz, FR Germany – highlights an important issue of industrial development in LDC’s: projects to assist small enterprises. Several distinguished experts review and analyse the management, and the performance of these projects in national and international development agencies, as well as the different processes of project implementation. The four chapters, consequently, deal with different perspectives: a discussion of the theoretical contributions to the issue of small enterprises’ development in LDC’s; the specific economic and political environments of the respective administrations in LDCs, their perceptions and interests to promote small enterprises; the interests to promote small enterprises; their specific management problems to improve and strengthen projects to support small enterprises, or more generally, to manage poverty-oriented development projects; finally, the book turns to research issues in basically, the administrative sciences, focusing on the question of of institutional change and institutional strengthening of LDCs for development.
