Values in Modern Indian Educational Thought
Synopsis
The modern Indian educational thinkers are conscious of this problem. Each of these thinkers protests against this kind of dischotomy between values. Tagore wants to maintain the unity of values because of his pre-eminently aesthetic reason. Lut his aesthetic experience is in substance a kind of spiritual experience. Gandhi protests against industrialism on economic grounds, but again ethical and spiritual ideals form the bases of his economics. The whole of education is a process of realizing and assimilating values. Hence every educational system or thought has to have a clear picture of the hierarchy of values. Even though certain values are basic, all of them can't be treated on the same par and their interdependence must also be shown clearly. All the significant thinkers of modern India have received their inspiration from ancient Indian religion in its purest spirit and this spirit and this guided their thoughts.
