Ramesh Raj Kunwar

Born at Sanglakhola, Kathmandu, Dr. Ramesh Raj Kunwar is Nepal's prominent anthropologist. He lives at Gongabu, Ward No. 4, Gongabu Village Development Committee, Kathmandu. He was educated first at Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, where he received his master's degree and esteemed Mahendra Vidhya Bhusan (Gold Medal); then at the University of Ranchi, India, he received his doctoral degree for his research on the Nature-Man-Spirit Complex of the Sherpas of Nepal Himalayan Region (1987). He has already published four books entitled Fire of Himal: An Anthropological Study of the Sherpas of Nepal Himalayan Region (1989), Ethnicity in South Asia (1996), Tourism and Development Science and Industry Interface (1997), Himalayan Heritage: A Study of Society, Culture and Religion of Nepal (1999) and Nepalese Climbers on Mount Everest (in press). He has visited most of the parts of Nepal. He also worked as the First Vice President of Nepal Mountaineering Association for 3 years (1992-1995). Dr. Kunwar is Associate Professor of the Central Department of Nepalese History, Culture and Archaeology, T.U., Kirtipur, Kathmandu. Currently, he is the Dean of Royal Nepalese Military Academy, Kharipati, Bhaktapur, and part timer at the Royal Nepal Army Staff College, Tokha, Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM), National College-Kathmandu University, REHDON College, Nobel College-Pokhara University and Classic Academy. Ravi Bhavan, Kathmandu. Dr. Kunwar has visited National University of Singapore as a Guest Speaker, London University, SOAS, UK, as a Visiting Scholar, Tokyo University, Japan, as a Guest Speaker and Zagrev University, Croatia, as a Visiting Professor. Dr. Kunwar is well experienced in developing visual anthropological work in Nepal. His visual anthropology work based on research on the Tharus entitled Tharu Folk Culture part one, two, three in Nepali and Faces and Places of Far Western Nepal in English prepared by Nepal Television got an International Award from Sony Television, Japan.
