India in a Turbulent World: Perspectives on Foreign and Security Policies
Synopsis
At the dawn of the new millennium, the makers of India's Foreign and Security Policies are confronting serious challenges arising out of the turbulence in world politics emanating from the momentous economic, technological and political changes. At the same time, unprecedented opportunities are also knocking at their door. These challenges and opportunities call for an in-depth scrutiny of the implications of these developments for India to suggest suitable response for furthering of the country's enlightened national interest along with peace, security and development. The present book has been designed to carry out this exercise. Divided into four parts, the first part of the book endeavours to systematically examine in a theoretically informed fashion, the implications of dynamic interplay between India's domestic, regional and global environments for its Foreign and Security Policies. In the light of this discussion, the second and third parts respectively deal with India's pursuit of bilateral diplomacy in South Asia and her readjusting of relations with the major powers. The final section of the book makes a critical assessment of India's contemporary security policies to enable the country meet the challenges posed by global turbulence.
