About the authors

P.V. Ramamurti

Prof. P.V. Ramamurti is a pioneer in research on ageing and the first Ph.D. in the field of Gero-psychology in India. He is credited with initiating the teaching of ageing in India and founder director of Center for Research on ageing at S.V. University, Tirupati. Widely traveled, he was a Fulbright fellow at the Andrus Geronetology Centre, USC, Los Angeles, USA. He has been associated with several organizations including United Nations (Agenda for Research on Ageing), and as guest faculty of United Nation’s International Institute of Ageing, Malta in their short-term training programmes in Social Gerontology. He is a former President of the Association of Gerontology (India) and a Member of the National Council for Older Persons (NCOP). He has executed more than a dozen National and International research projects and published about 150 research articles in the field of ageing. He is a recipient of several National and International awards and honours in the field of Ageing.

D. Jamuna

Dr. D. Jamuna is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology, S.V. University with a Ph.D. in Ageing. Widely Travelled, was recipient of Tilak Award (AGI) 1984; was trained in social gerontology at the International Institute on Ageing, Malta o a UNFPA Fellowship (1992); Sandoz International training Fellowship Award, SFGR to work – at PSU, USA (1996-97); visiting Scientist – TMIG, Tokyo, Japan (1998-99); recipient of the Meritorious teacher award for Research on ageing of S.V. University (2000) and more recently (2003-04) on a Fulbright senior Fellow at the Gerontology Center, PSU, PA, USA. She is a ardent researcher in the field and has to her credit both national and international research projects and about 80 research publications.
