Indian Society and Culture
Synopsis
The present publication is divided into two groups. First group, which is on Indian Society explains that after 56 years of independence, one cannot expect Indian society to remain static and traditional. The traditional social systems are not in the process of disintegration. Finding it difficult to operate in old ways they are adapting themselves to the changed environment. This work is an attempt at understanding the inter-play of socio-cultural ideas in the development of Indian life through the ages of its existence. The second group is on Indian Culture which explains that Indian Cultural Heritage is a colourful story of varied experiences in all fields of human activity through the ages. Indian culture is pre-dominantly self-restraint and is based on the ancient vedic teachings of spiritualism. A power of assimilation and synthesis has throughout the ages characterized the Indian culture. It passed through the Vedic, the Islamic and the European influences and survived with its own glory, in spite of numerous foreign invasions and various local confusion faced from time to time. When India is once more emerging from eclipse, this work explains her glories and achievements in the domain of art, literature, religions, politics etc.
