About the author

Narain Gehani

Narain Gehani is a world-renowned expert in Web technologies, software, and databases. After obtaining his Ph.D. in computer science from Cornell University in 1975, he taught computer science for three years at SUNY/Buffalo and then joined Bell Labs in 1978. At Bell Labs, where he served till 2001, Dr. Narain was actively engaged in numerous leading-edge technology projects, for examples, office computing access for mobile workers, collaborative telephone/Web environment, VoiceXML, and XML query languages. He has authored several software systems, including the Ode database and Concurrent C/.C++ parallel programming language, holds several patents, and has written many books and numerous papers in computer science. At present he is the Chairman and Professor of Computer Science at New Jersey Institute of Technology.
