The 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development which took place in Johannesburg during August 26-September 4, 2002 emphasized on “Partnership for Sustainable Developmentâ€. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan says, “…It is just the beginning to bring partnershipâ€. Immediately after that the first International Conference entitled, “Business-Social Partnership: Beyond Philanthropy†was organized by Indian Institute of Management Calcutta during December 4-7, 2002. the volume is an effort to bring together the views of the scholars across the globe on this issue. This edited book is a collection of case studies from business houses and NGOs on the issue of sustainable development. It takes the stand of developing local partnerships for development and therefore the road ahead is towards, indigenous model of sustainable development – a tri-sector partnership amongst business houses, local government and NGOs. The book may serve as the reference book to the MBA students taking the course on Corporate Social Responsibility in different IIMS and other management institute in India and abroad. The book is likely to have a very good international market as it talks about corporate Social Responsibility from an international perspective and may be useful for the scholars doing researches in this area.
