Synopsis Pursuit on rural development in India, following ever changing perspectives on international development discourse, has been an interminable process right from the fifties of the last century when it began with a stress on community development approach. Not surprisingly then the process of globalisation in recent years has brought about a shifting emphasis on rural development paradigm along with changing perspectives on international development discourse that emphasises on 'participatory and sustainable development' and thereby 'enlarging people's choices'. Obviously, the context to explore is rural development as policy and practices, and also as a process vis-a-vis globalisation.
